Total Dark A suspense movie. This is a review of the movie.
When I saw the previews for Total Dark, I expected a real horror movie. As it turns out, it's more of a suspense/thriller movie.
A group of space travelers who have been cryogenically frozen are traveling in a large space-ship when, suddenly, the ship rocks with the force of some kind of impact. The pilot, Toast (Jenna Donner), awakens, goes to the ship’s controls, and realizes that they are heading straight into the atmosphere of a planet. In an effort to level the vessel out, she jettisons parts of the vessel. The ship is still too heavy, so she tries to dump the part containing some other travelers, but one of the crew stops her. Later on, she grows to feel guilty about even considering dropping the crew.
They crash-land on this strange planet with a few survivors, one of whom is a convicted killer, Chadwick (Wyn Flynn), who has the ability to see at night. While searching for water the survivors encounter the camp of some previous occupants of the planet. After digging around, they realize that the prior inhabitants are all dead!
Then the suspense begins. People start disappearing, and those who remain discover that an eclipse is about to occur, which will unleash killer creatures from below! The remaining crew go back to their wrecked ship to get supplies, but before they can leave, the eclipse begins! The few crew members who are left have to decide who they can trust, and pull together in an effort to escape, when the only protection they have is light, which injures the creatures. Do they trust Chaddwick, the serial killer -- who seems to be the only one that can guide them? Do they go by themselves, stay put where they are and try to wait out the eclipse, or try to get to the camp where a ship that could take them home awaits? You will know only if you go see this movie!
All in all, despite my expectations from the trailer, I enjoyed this movie once I accepted that I was not in for real horror but more suspense. I recommend ignoring the hype on this one and go see it for the edge-of-your-seat thrills.
