Sadie Somers

This is a commentary on Sadie Somers and her career as an actress. She is a regular on Fisher's Brook a series that bears a striking resemblance to Dawson's Creek.

Let me preface this by saying that I am not a big fan of Fisher's Brook; never have been. It has always struck me as one of those shows that would really be more interesting if they could some how kill off the moron who has a brook named after him. The supporting cast always struck me as a whining group of kids with above average vocabularies. Now before you hit the back button on your browser or start firing hate-emails to the editors, let me say that my opinion is changing. The reason... Sadie Somers.

Now I haven't always been enamored with Sadie. When I first saw Fisher's Brook, I found Alex Potluck about the only thing more pathetic than the title character. With her character constantly taking a backseat to the moron and the kid with the funny accent, she barely left an impression at all, much less one of being a fine actress. Then some friends of mine convinced me to see On. I don't know how being the most convincing argument they had was that "Sadie Somers is in it!" While On ranks as one of my favorite films of all time, it was the performance by Sadie as Ciynthia Fontain that I felt left the biggest impression on me.

Then Instructing Mr. Scratch came out. Again, Sadie astonished me with some more brilliant acting. I went and rented more Sadie films, Frozen Waters (an excellent movie) and Repulsive Manners (well... we can't win them all). I was hooked.

Since then, you might even say I have grown a tad obsessed. When I was offered passes to attend a screening of her new film, Hiding Out, I jumped at the chance. While her role is small in relation to the roles of the other stars in the movie, she plays it so honestly and heartfelt that the entire theater was taken back by her performance.

Which brings me back to the big FB. I started watching it again but all the attention on Mr. Moron made me lose interest quick. But then it was announced that they were going to start developing the character of Alex Potluck more. When I saw that that mural that she had worked so hard on was defaced, and then felt her conflict as Georgie found out who the culprit was, I was riveted. When Alex rallied her schoolmates to make their voices heard and then PJ and she shared such a moment, well, I felt inspired to get out there and stand for something I believe in. What do I believe in? That Sadie Somers, possibly the finest actress of her generation, is single handedly saving Fisher's Brook. The focus on her character, in addition to her excellent work in film, is going to be the catalyst for an entire new legion of Fisher's Brook fans.
